Welding is
one of the metal joining techniques by melting a portion of the filler metal
with or without pressure and with or without metal enhancers which results in a
continuous connection. The scope of the use of welding techniques in
construction is very broad, including shipping, bridges, steel frames, pressure
vessels, rapid pipes, pipelines and so on.
Based on
the definition of DIN (Deutch Industrie Normen) welding is a metallurgical bond
on a guide metal connection that is carried out in a melted or liquid state.
From this definition, it can be further explained that welding is the local
connection of several metal bars using heat energy. At this time, 40 types of
welding have been used including welding carried out by pressing the two metals
which are joined so that these two metals can be bonded together.
Welding
techniques are sought after by several people who want to learn to weld. These
techniques can we get vocational or technical school bench. However, for
ordinary people who want to open a welding shop business for example tend not
to have time to study formally. Therefore, we will provide some welding tips
that we hope can help us all in learning how to weld properly.
Equipment
needed in the welding process includes:
1.
Main Equipment
- Welding machine
- Electric current: AC / DC
- Electrode Holder / electrode pliers /
electrode clamp
- Welding cable (electrode cable / mass cable /
power cable)
2.
Safety Equipment
- Welding mask, to protect the eyes from
welding rays
- Welding masks / suction blowers, to protect
the nose and breathing due to fire smoke
- Apron / chest protector, to protect the body
from sparks
- welding gloves
- Protective shoes
3.
Auxiliary Equipment
- Pliers
- Steel brush
- Crust hammer
- welding table
- Grinding machine
Welding way :
1. Clean the material to be welded. Use
a hammer to clean the crust on the surface of the area to be welded. Use a
steel brush for maximum results.
2. Place the material to be welded in
the space provided. Whether it's using a work desk or just putting it on the
floor. Adjust the density between the two ingredients. Use clamps if needed.
3. Place the welding machine mass on
one part of the material to be welded. Insert the electrode in the electrode
clamp panel in the welding machine. Attach the tilt of the electrode to adjust
the position of the material. Usually there is already a special place of the
electrode tilt on the electrode clamp pliers. Whether it's perpendicular to 90
degrees, 30 or 40 degrees.
4. After the material is ready for
welding, slowly bring the tip of the electrode close to the material to be
welded.
5. The distance between the tip of the
electrode and the material to be welded greatly affects the quality of welding.
If the distance is too far, sparks will emerge like raindrops of fire. The
welding process will be imperfect. If the distance is too close, the fire does
not burn properly. And there is not enough distance to melt the electrodes. A
good distance is one-eighth of the thickness of the electrode.
6. By using a protective mask or
welding goggles, you can pay attention to the part of the melted electrode that
holds the two welded materials together. Slowly move the electrode along the
welded area.
7. Good results during the welding
process can be seen when the welded surface is shaped like a dense wave and
regularly closes the welded part perfectly.
8. After finishing, clean the crust
covering the welded part using a hammer. Double check whether there are parts
that are not perfect. If it is not perfect, repeat the part that has not been
put together properly. In some cases, welded material must be grinded again if
the welding is not perfect. But if it is not too fatal, we can simply weld the
part that hasn't been completely welded yet.
